Hon. Lydia M Barchynsky Olah | Mediator/Arbitrator

The Honourable Lydia M. Barchynsky Olah was a judge of the Superior Court of Ontario (Family Branch) for 20 years. She particularly enjoyed, and was successful at, resolving issues at Case Conferences, Settlement Conferences and Trial Management Conferences.

Lydia’s commitment to cost-efficient resolution for litigants is highlighted by her initiation of the Dispute Resolution Programme in Barrie for Motions to Change; a highly successful programme which minimized the number of matters that proceeded to trial in Barrie.

Prior to her appointment to the Bench, Lydia practiced in North Bay, Ontario for 20 years. She was a highly successful family law practitioner, appearing in the family provincial and superior courts in Parry Sound, North Bay, Haileybury, New Liskeard, Timmins, Sudbury/Gore Bay and Toronto.

In the early 1990’s, Lydia trained and conducted mediation of “carriage trade” family matters, involving property, financial and support matters. As senior counsel for the Ontario Children’s Lawyer, Lydia represented many children involved in custody or protection disputes.

Lydia looks forward to continuing to help families resolve their issues by mediation or arbitration through Ex Juris.
