Steve Rastin | Mediator

Steve has been working in the legal field since 1991. Since then, Steve has successfully argued cases before all levels of the court, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Steve’s practice includes all aspects of personal injury law, including accident benefits litigation and long-term disability claims. Steve also has extensive labour and employment law experience, having acted for both employers and employees.

 

Steve is a past president of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA). During his presidency, he advocated for best professional and ethical practices through the development of the OTLA Code, during the ABS debate and on a variety of court reform initiatives. He is a frequent speaker for legal conferences aimed at educating both lawyers and health care professionals and has authored various legal publications and reference materials.

In addition to his work with OTLA, Steve is also a member of the Ontario Bar Association and The Advocates’ Society. He is also active in his community having held positions as President of the Rotary Club, Chair of the Huronia District Hospital Board, Chair of the Ministry of Health’s Simcoe-Muskoka Hospital Network, and member of the Police Services Board.

 

In recognition of his community work, Steve has been the recipient of the Rotary Paul Harris Fellow award, the Simcoe Muskoka School Board’s Trustee Tribute Award, and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Georgian Bay Cancer Centre. Steve has also been recognized by the City of Barrie for his work with the Helmets on Kids initiative. Steve was nominated in 2015 by Canadian Lawyer as one of Canada’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers.
